Most have given in to the obvisious advantages of modern production techniques; and CNC machines have taken over the work of the craftsmen. Machines may be accurate, but they leave little room for individualism. One piece of metal exactly like the other, exchangeable, and not allowing the slightest variation. Often, the product range is stripped down to some four gun models (shotgun s/s, o/u, double rifle and carabine). A customer’s special requirements cannot be considered anymore, the soul, the age-old knowledge, the essence of traditional gunmaking is becoming rare – and the “gunsmith” himself as a most complete craftsman, combining technical knowledge and skill, accuracy, with a sense of aesthetics in one person – is becoming extinct.
